A popular destination, the Chapel welcomes hundreds of visitors every day for services, concerts, ceremonies, tours, and moments of personal reflection and prayer.

Hours

The Chapel is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., except on some university holidays when it closes at 5:00 p.m. The building is occasionally closed for private events. Before planning a visit, please consult the online calendar.

Each weekday from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m., the Chapel observes a time of silence so visitors may have quiet for personal prayer, reflection, or meditation.

Parking

The closest public parking area to the Chapel is the Bryan Center Parking Garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available in the parking lot immediately in front of the garage. When the Bryan Center Parking Garage is full, other options include the Science Drive Lot and Science Drive Garage. Please leave plenty of time to park, as the availability of parking on campus varies considerably.

The cost to park is typically $2 per hour. For some special events, there is a $5 flat fee for parking in the Bryan Center Parking Garage and designated overflow areas. For event-specific parking instructions, please check our calendar.

Groups arriving by bus need to contact us to make a reservation to drop off and pick up passengers. uses may park in the spaces designated for buses at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens once passengers have been dropped off at the Chapel.

Accessible Entrances

The accessible entrance to the main floor of the Chapel is located on the north side of the Chapel facing the Divinity School. The accessible entrance to the basement floor of the Chapel is located on the south side of the Chapel facing the Bryan Center.

Services, Concerts, and Events

Duke Chapel is host to worship services, concerts, university ceremonies, and other events throughout the year. Something is happening at the Chapel almost every day! For details, see our events calendar.

Tours

Guided tours of the Chapel are available by appointment and focus on the interior of the Chapel, usually lasting 30 to 45 minutes. A tour is offered regularly every Sunday after the 11:00 a.m. worship service, which ends at approximately 12:15 p.m. To schedule a tour, contact us at 919-681-9488 or dukechapel@duke.edu.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers campus tours by appointment for groups of high school students throughout the year, except during March, April, May, and December.

Organ Music

Chapel organ scholars and local organists hold open rehearsals regularly in the Chapel for all to enjoy. Visitors to the Chapel are invited to listen from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the academic year, excluding breaks and holidays. Tower Access

The Chapel’s tower is closed to the public. By appointment, it is open to groups of Duke students, faculty, and staff in accordance with the Chapel’s tower climb policies.

Restrooms

There are no public restrooms in the Chapel. Restrooms are available in the Bryan Center, Page Auditorium, and the Divinity School.

Photography

Visitors are welcome to take photos of the Chapel for personal use only, as long as it doesn't disturb others or interrupt an event. For photography or videography for news, documentary, or commercial use, please see our News & Media policies.
