Chapel Scholars

Chapel Scholars

Chapel Scholars is an ecumenical Christian program, which means that participating students come from a wide range of Christian traditions. Many Chapel Scholar students also participate in other Religious Life groups, and are encouraged to foster a sense of cooperation and hospitality across ministry groups.

An important part of being a Chapel Scholar is developing relationships with Chapel ministers and fellow Chapel Scholars, and deepening your relationship with God. To facilitate that, Chapel ministers meet informally with students and also organize these events and initiatives.

Community Engagement

Through the Chapel's Community Ministry program, Chapel Scholars find ways to connect with Chapel friends and neighbors in Durham.

Faith and Learning Conversations

Chapel ministers host regular conversations over a meal about how your faith frames your experiences in the classroom.

Mission Trips

Over academic breaks, Chapel Scholars may participate in mission trips organized by the Chapel or apply for funding for their own mission trip.

Reading Groups

Chapel ministers organize reading groups around topics that connect Christian faith to wider concerns on campus and in the world.

Worship Leadership

Chapel Scholars participate in the Chapel’s worship services by serving as ushers, lectors, communion servers, Scripture readers or prayer leaders.
