The Rev. Kathryn Lester-Bacon will be the new director of Religious Life at Duke Chapel, beginning September 1.

Rev. Lester-Bacon is currently the associate pastor for Second Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia. She is a Duke alumna; while at Duke, she was a Chapel Scholar and sang in the Chapel Choir.

In her new role, she will support the work of the chaplains, minsters, and staff of Duke’s two dozen Religious Life groups. She will also promote collaboration and dialogue among these diverse faith groups.

In announcing her appointment, Chapel Dean Luke A. Powery and the Rev. Bruce Puckett, assistant dean of the Chapel, wrote, “Kathryn comes with a wealth of ministry experience and many pastoral gifts that will lead us into a vibrant future as the Chapel convenes critical faith conversations on campus and beyond.”

In addition to her ministry at Second Presbyterian, Rev. Lester-Bacon has served at Duke Hospital and Trinity Presbyterian in Durham. She is a graduate of Princeton Seminary.
